Australian Soprano, Georgia Cooper is a current member of the Oberösterreichisches Opernstudio at the Landestheater Linz, Austria.
Georgia’s recent operatic roles includes: Drei adelige Waisen in Der Rosenkavalier at the Landestheater Linz, Contessa in Le nozze di Figaro with the Prague Summer Nights Music Festival, Miss Jessel in The Turn of the Screw with Hayes Theatre Company, and Erste Dame in Die Zauberflöte at the Trentino Music Festival in Italy. She has performed as principal soprano in two world premiere operas: Menarche by Jessica O’Donoghue and M.TH.R by Oliver Cameron. Both productions were directed by Lindy Hume and presented in collaboration between the Sydney Conservatorium of Music and the National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA).
As a concert soloist, Georgia has appeared with various Australian ensembles and choirs including the Opera Australia Orchestra, Illawarra Choral Society, Manly Warringah Choir and Orchestra, Sydney University Symphony Orchestra and East Sydney Chamber Orchestra. Works include Brahms’ Ein deutsches Requiem, Jenkins’ Stella Natalis, Haydn’s The Creation, Fauré’s Requiem, and Gounod’s St. Cecilia Mass. Georgia has performed in opera gala scenes with orchestra, presenting excerpts from Der Rosenkavalier (Richard Strauss), Don Giovanni (Mozart), and Thaïs (Massenet).
In 2024, Georgia was a finalist in the Australian Singing Competition, performing with the Opera Australia Orchestra under the baton of Tahu Matheson, Head of Music at Opera Australia. She was awarded both the Canadian Vocal Scholarship and the Zeke Solomon Award. The previous year, Georgia was a finalist and recipient of the ATO Development Grant in the 2023 German-Australian Opera Grant.
Georgia holds a Bachelor and Masters degree from the Sydney Conservatorium of Music where she studied with Maree Ryan AM. During her studies, Georgia received various academic and merit scholarships including the Henderson Travellers Scholarship, the Helpmann Family Fellowship, the Peter Davidson Music Scholarship, the Patrica Lucas Music Scholarship and the PAITIM Fund. Georgia was also awarded the George and Margaret Henderson Travellers Scholarship which gave her the opportunity to undertake an opera program at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester and participate in both the Prague Summer Nights (Czechia) and Trentino Music (Italy) Festivals.
Georgia is looking forward to the world premiere of Madita by Viktor Åslund at the Landestheater Linz where she will perform as the title role.
